Shimmy integrates play-based and Montessori philosophies. We believe in setting up a stimulating and positive environment which encourages exploration and independence. We believe children are self-directed, active learners when provided with the environment, materials, and social opportunities to pursue their ideas and interests. We do not impose curriculum, but rather, prepare a variety of play "ecologies" areas that invite different types of private or group play.
We encourage, model, and teach respectful, non-violent communication.
